While some people assume that they will have to pay for chiropractic care entirely out of pocket, they may be surprised to learn that chiropractic care is often covered partially or entirely under health insurance plans.
There are a few things that you can do in order to find out if your chiropractic care will be covered by your individual insurance plan.
- Speak with your insurance company: A simple call to your insurance company should be enough to get all of the information that you need regarding your chiropractic coverage including your yearly insurance coverage total, your percentage coverage per visit and any co-pays or other restrictions which may exist. Some insurance companies also allow your chiropractor to do direct-billing so that you pay less, or potentially nothing, at the time of your appointment.
- Speak with your chiropractor’s office: Many but not all chiropractic clinics offer direct-billing to insurance companies. It is best to check with your chiropractor’s office in order to ensure that you are aware of their pricing schedule and their insurance billing practices. Each insurance company has its own insurance billing policies which may make it easier or more difficult for your chiropractor to bill them directly.
- If your insurance policy does not cover chiropractic care you can speak with your employer and insurance provider to voice your opinion that you would like to have chiropractic coverage.
